I think they are simply going with the conclusions of the Inspector General

The investigation was not based on political bias, and the FBI had sufficient cause to open the investigation.

First you had the Nunes memo. Fizzle.

Next you had the Horowitz report. Pop.

Now we're just chomping at the bit for the Durham investigation. I have no doubt about the strategic timing we should expect for those conclusions - sometime around the 2020 election. I suspect it will itself be a form of election interference.

The real witch hunt. The only endless investigation, which refuses to accept any conclusions not aligned with the politics of Trumpistan, that actually qualifies as a witch hunt, as that phrase is used in English.
